I know most people seriously dread getting their pictures taken. It’s a lot of work and especially nerve racking for parents. Please know that during the session children can sense if their parents are stressed. I want your experience to be fun for the whole family and capture those happy moments. Back in the 80’s we had a family photo shoot taken. Each of us wore a different colored neon shirt and I’m pretty sure I hair-sprayed my bangs for 20 minutes to get them to stand straight up. To this day those pictures are priceless. I want to capture “priceless” pictures for your family to enjoy forever. I feel that having a moment captured in your life is so important and cherished because children grow way too fast, and we never know what tomorrow will bring.

In the meantime, here are a few tips and answers to your frequently asked questions to help ease the stress…

What should we wear?

* For newborn sessions I request parents wear simple long sleeve black shirts. You can pick out a cute outfit for your baby to have pictures in but please limit it to one. Babies get irritated after so many clothes changes- and we really don’t want that. Please see below for additional newborn tips.
* For children, anything goes! Generally try to avoid overly busy prints. It brings attention to the clothes – not the child. However, I highly encourage that you bring clothes that suit your child's personality and age. (For example: neon shirt and lots of aerosol. OK, that was a joke but you get where I’m going.) Once again, I really want this to be a fun experience- not traumatizing. If your daughter insists on wearing her Hanna Montana shirt, then bring it! Maybe we can do some compromising. You never know, 10 years down the road that maybe your favorite picture. Plus imagine putting that picture in her senior yearbook. Awesome!!! Also, if your child has a favorite toy or blanket, bring that too. I love getting creative. I have a large collection of hats, headbands, scarves, leg warmers, tutus, petti skirts, and other cool props if you’re interested.

Newborn tips:

* Best age for pics is between birth and two weeks of age if possible.
* Naked is best – keep diaper on but loosely wrap baby in blanket to keep him or her warm and snugly until we begin.
* Parents should clean & trim nails before the photo shoot. I love pictures of babies in their parents hands. It shows their itty bitty size.
* If the shoot is at your house, turn up the heat or turn off the AC – if you’re feeling hot & uncomfortable then the baby is probably perfect. If the shoot is at my house, expect it to be nice and toasty. Babies love to be warm. A warm, well fed baby is a sleepy baby. That’s when magical pictures happen. A hungry, cold baby is bound to be irritable and sad.
* Feed your baby about half hour before the session. We can stop several times throughout session for additional feeding if needed.
* Your baby will most likely pee and maybe even poop on the blankets or backgrounds I have. Its OK and actually happens ALL the time. I wash EVERYTHING after each session. If you choose the session to be at my studio, please bring an extra set of clothes for yourself in case you get soiled on. It might be yucky but I promise you won’t die from it. :)

Please NO sick children. I know how miserable it feels to be sick and I don’t expect your kid to suck it up for a photo shoot. I’ll gladly reschedule at no extra charge.
